Michael J Silvers, DO, M.P.H. Mercury Healthcare Medical Director

Board Certified in Family Medicine, Expertise in Travel Medicine and Public Health. Dr Silvers is an expert in international health with distinctions such as a member of President Clinton's advance party emergency medical team, former chief medical adviser to the Peace Corp and a member of the Center for Disease Control's international health program office. No stranger to global healthcare, Michael has worldwide health program development experience and is the former Director of Corpus Christi/Nueces County Health Department, Director of International Health at the University of Louisville, consultant for Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and a former Assistant Professor at Touro University Medical School of Nevada.
As the former chief medical advisor to the Peace Corp and a member of the Center for Disease Control's international health program office, Dr. Silvers inspected healthcare systems in countries as far reaching as Guatemala, Belize, Jamaica, Brazil, Togo, Kenya, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Fiji and Thailand. As a result, Dr. Silvers understands continuum of care on an international scale, from what it is like to arrive in the country as a stranger, to gaining trust in the local team and what happens after the procedure is performed. He also created the Peace Corp's and the State Department's medical evacuation system for Africa, where sophisticated medical care centers were set up in South Africa for use by Americans in other parts of the continent. With all this time among foreign populations, Dr. Silvers is not just familiar with bringing a foreign healthcare system in line with US standards. He also understands how to educate the local population on the importance of embracing those suggestions. Among his many contributions to Mercury Healthcare, Dr. Silvers will also oversee the review of physician credentialing and privileging. From time to time, he also participates on international hospital accreditation preparation teams with Mercury Healthcare Advisory Group team members.
Dr. Silvers is a charter member of the Council on the Global Integration of Healthcare and serves as the Co-Chief Medical Officer in the organization. In his spare time, Dr. Silvers enjoys a relaxing day on the golf course with his wife near their home in Las Vegas, Nevada. He plays guitar and enjoys music.
